Toxic brain injury may be caused by infection, assault from chemicals or from lack of oxygen. High Definition Brain SPECT Imaging shows areas of decreased blood flow when the brain has been injured by toxins or lack of oxygen.

Toxic Brain Injury occurs during exposure to toxic substances. Toxic substances include pollution, smoke, carbon monoxide, chemical fumes, asbestos, mold, alcohol, drugs, pesticides, solvents, fuels, mercury exposure, bacteria and viruses. Toxins can enter the body through the lungs, mucous membranes, digestive tract and skin.

Drug and alcohol use contributes to toxic brain injury. Drug and alcohol abuse is one of the most common causes of brain injury.
